Batad Rice Terraces
near Banaue - Ifugao, Philippines
This is an image from the UNESCO protected Batad Rice Terraces. It is one of the most impresive sites I have ever seen as to climb from the top to the very bottom is well over a 1500 ft gain. The Batad is far from everything and in the heart of the rice terraces region and Al Qaeda and NPA operate up here freely. While setting up my 4x5 to take this shot 6 guys with automatic weapons (and police shirts) stopped by and asked 'can we take a look through your camera?' Who was I to argue with them?
